We are looking to upgrade to LBI 9.0.4 and lookin at the multiple instances of RAS on the same server install. Has anyone implemented this. If so can you find performance, response and throughput increases ?

Hi Ruma,

I've never tried multiple RAS instances on a single server, however setting up a distributed RAS environment (dedicated/multiple RAS servers) will help. The primary issues I've experienced with RAS performance/reliability are memory issues (ie leaks), so I'm skeptical that multiple instances on a single server would help.

Thanks,
Chris

Thanks chris for your reply. Are you saying that multiple dedicated RAS servers is more helpful than installing multiple RAS instances on the same server ? Also we are planning to upgrade to LBI Version 9.0.4. Do you think that this version may make a difference as far as memory leaks are concerned ?

I have found that multiple dedicated RAS servers is helpful in resolving performance and reliability issues. This was on a fully patched (at the time) RAS XI - SP2 I recall. The memory leaks were specific to the RAS application, so I doubt LBI 9.0.4 will have any impact on this...however I believe this will allow you to upgrade RAS to R3 (aka 2008), which may help.

Hi Ruma,

Crystal 2008 now suports the ability to scale vertically, meaning you can install multiple RAS services on a single server. This may be something to consider.

Hi Pat,

Thanks for sharing this information. Lawson confirmed this as well.

Our system admins as well as websphere admin did have a lot of questions about this configuration and we may need to have a conversation with you whenever we are ready to start upgrading.

Thanks again,

Ruma.
