Currently we do not have a dependent or student age maximum on any of our plans. (We use an outside vendor for online benefit enrollment.) We do run a self created report to audit for students over 25 or non-students over 19. if we find any then we manually remove them and run a custom job to add them to the BN70 for COBRA.
We were hoping to add the maximums for students and dependents to the BN17.1. I did this, then added a new eff date for the 17.2 and ran the BN105. It did not change any of the benefits for the test dependent that I set up. I found something on mylawson that indicated I would have to manually change the stop date for the affected dependents.
"The BN105 will recognize the addition of the new coverage record and update the employee and dependent with the correct new start date, however it is designed that the stop date will not be recalculated based on the change in age without some manual intervention. If you put a C in the FC column on the HR13.2 benefit enrollment for the dependent, blank out the stop date, and hit the change icon, the system will put in the correct stop date. Currently, this is working as designed and an enhancement request can be pursued." When I did this, it gave me the following error - "Dep Stop Date cannot be blank when Emp stop date exists".
So my questions are the following??
1. If we add the maximum ages, how do we stop the plans for current dependents that may be over that age?
2. Is there a Lawson delivered process we run each month/week to remove dependents that are now over that age maximum? Will this automatically create a record on the LP70?
Thanks for any guideance you are able to give!

I also ran the BN102 with the age indicator set to "Y" and it also did not update the dependents benefits.

I, too, would like to know how to change the dependent age. I've tried without success.

I did a webex with Kathy M. from Lawson on Friday regarding the age maximums on the benefit plans. Because we have end dates on all of our benefit plans, we will have to manually end the plans for the 2010 plan year for dependents that meet the maximum age during 2010. Once we roll over the plans for 2011, an end date should be automatically created for dependents that hit the maximum age in 2011. If we implemented this prior to the end of the year, we would have to manually update those dependents. Any dependents added after we update the plans that turn 26 this calendar year would automatically have their end date changed to reflect their birthdate.

The dependent age is based on the birth date entered on HR13...is that what you mean?

John - I was referring to the maximum age set up on the BN17, which would be based on the age on the HR13.

RE: New law covering dependents until age 26
Found this at my lawson regarding the dependent age 26 mandatory change.
We tested this process change recently. You will need to update the BN17.1 as well as adding a new BN17.2 for the impacted plans. The BN17.2 allows you to effective date the change. You will then need to run a BN105 to update the enrolled employees. We are making the change in September but making it effective 1/1/2011. This way when employees use self-service to enroll during Open Enrollment they will be able to add their dependents who are now eligible due to the new age condition.

I changed the student age and dependent age from 25 to 26 on BN17.1 and created a new record on BN17.2. Ran the BN105 and it did change the end date on the dependent benefits.
