How to create a announcement on login or canvas?

We'd like to announce to our users via the Landmark interface that the system will be down for maintenance.  It would be nice if it could display on the login screen or as a fixture on the Landmark canvas desktop.   If I could create a universal background for the canvas desktop it would do the trick.

I would think that if the landmark app opens to an "index.html" page like S3 you could just change the index landing page file? We are looking at some landmark apps but don't have any landmark except IPA.

It might not be exactly what you are looking for, but how about sending a global message?  Then when they login to the rich client, they would have a message waiting in the rich client inbox.
