Good morning,
I was told that taking an IBM Websphere class is just too much for Lawson's use. Has anyone tried the Lawson course System Foundation 9.0 Administration: Websphere Application Server –WAS?
Its only half a day course and am not sure if this course is what I am looking for be the "Lawson Webshpere Administrator"
Thanks,
Jude

It depends on how much Websphere support you have in your organization. For me, I end up doing both Lawson and Websphere. I took a IBM Webpshere training VA170 class. It was extremely helpful in understanding what Lawson was doing (or trying to do) in Websphere.

I took the same class. It didn't go very deep into Websphere at all. At the end of the class, I still had no idea the difference between a node, node agent, cell, etc... They basically just cover only what you need for Lawson without explaining a lot about it. Unless you have no experience at all with Websphere, I would look for something more in depth from IBM.

As others said - it really depends how it's setup, and what you do with it. The thing is - if everything works as expected, you do not touch WebSphere for a year until the next upgrade. And the new version may change things. So, I would question practial use of the WAS training. IBM class may be a bit more deep, as others indicated. But unless you work with it all the time, doing advanced setup and troubleshooting, I am not sure how helpful it will realy be.

I would not waste my $$ on IBM training. We sent someone to WAS-1 Training
for Windows in order to be the WebSphere Admin for our IBM HATS developers.
They guy came back knowing just enough to start and stop the deployment
manager, nodeagent, and nodes from the command-line, but still had no
understanding of what a jvm is.
In my experience, a person gains plenty of WAS admin knowledge simply
performing the day-to-day duties of a Lawson Admin. The deeper into WAS
your unique needs dictate, the more you will naturally learn by necessity.
Most everything you need is documented on support.lawson.
