We are about to embark on a 9.0.0.8 to 9.0.1.6 upgrade and can forgo using MKS toolkit and use LUU and CYGWIN.  Has anyone done this type of upgrade?  If so, how did it go?  Any issues?  One of the manuals was just updated in August of 2011 and that kind of "newness" makes a sys admin a bit nervous.

Any issues or things to be aware of with the install?

It's fairly straight forward and simple. You just need to follow the guide. There isn't any "gotcha" surprises for me.

We went from 9.0.1.5 to 9.0.1.8 in August.

We noticed that commom simple shell commands will still work in LUU, but not all.  We re-wrote all shell scripts into perl scripts.

After the upgrade, we noticed the ESS performance is extremely slow, such as bring up a pay stub.  We brought the isse to Lawson.  Apparently, there is a problem with lawsec.jar.  Lawson said to uninstall the patch, but somehow that introduced another problem in IE 8 where you get the security warning message everytime you login to ESS

Hi Steven, do you know which patch is causing the problem with ESS? I just tried ESS (just finished installing the 9.0.1.8 patches - all 31 of them) and noticed some ESS screens are taking a bit longer to load (i.e. Year to Date).

                It's patch LSFCT_WIN_09000108P11417.jar

The slow performance applies only to employees having the Access Flag = N in Lawson Security.  If you have Access Flag = Y, it works fine.

I'm seeing the same issue in ESS since the 9.0.1.8 patchset went in. I've opened a CASE with Lawson, we'll see what they have to say. I appreciate the info, it's always nice to stay one step ahead of my users...

Lawson had us remove LSFCT_WIN2008_09000108P12799.zip and that cleared the ESS issue. The patch created an issue with performing drill arounds on the EMPLOYEE field if CheckLS=YES. Also, we are not seeing any errors in IE8 after removing the patch.

Back to the 9.0.0 to 9.0.1 upgrade... I'm looking at the steps needed using cygwin/LUU and was wondering, do I set up the LSF Alternate Shell first, then DPP, and then run lawappinstall? And does the install still take "days" to run? I'm trying to do some planning and need to prepare my users for the downtime. HELP.....
