Greetings, all!
I'm very interested in finding out who all here has experience using automated load and/or regression testing tools? What tools have you seen used against Lawson portal? Is your testing done in-house or through a partner?
Any input would be greatly appreciated,

Zeke,
I have extensive experience with this, since I was a member of teams responsible for two fo the largest performance testing, and was the leader for one other very large one

Zeke -
A nice free solution (software is free but obviously requires Lawson knowledge etc to setup/configure the testing which may or may not be free depending on your skillset) is jmeter from the apache project. It allows you to specify n number of users (threads) performing transactions n number of times and allows for the data to be different by reading from csv files. You can specify success/fail conditions for each transaction and it generates multiple reports of processing time per transaction, range, deviation etc. I like to use it as both a load testing tool and also a performance benchmark. If you run a testplan with no load on the server and have a baseline timeframe then when a user complains of poor performance you can simulate their activity and determine if the issue is truly the server or perhaps an impatient end user...

Hi Zeke,
I have watched a couple of demos on a product from Avaap called ATA (Avaap Test Automation); they are a Certified Lawson Partner. Script data is read from spreadsheets, results are logged and dashboard type reporting is available. Looks like a great product.
We are under tight budget scrutiny so I am going to check out Jason's jmeter recommendation.

For load testing, Lawson has partnered with VIP Consulting. Lawson and VIP have had prior CUE sessions about the testing methodology. I believe they use HP Loadrunner for the load testing.

Hi everyone. My name is Massimo Emilione and I am the product & deliver manager here at Avaap. If anyone is still interested in testing automation I would be happy to give you a demo of our product called Avaap Test Automation (ATA). We currently have over 40 customers who have bought our tool and have been able to simplify and reduce the amount of time needed for testing. Our tool is a standalone application and does not require any development skills. Any business owner can use this tool as it records live what you are typing into the portal and plays back the data you tell it to playback.
