NEWB here. Back in November we ran into an issue adding new Employees in Lawson. When employees were added to one of our companies (Company 10) in HR11, they were no longer being added to any employee groups. All employees hired are generally added to quite a few employee groups. This began happening in the middle of the day on a Monday. We tried recompling HR11 and HR55 but that did not help. We then ran HR155 for one group and it added the group to three of the new employees that had previously been added in HR11 without any employee groups. We then added two new employees. There were added with no groups. Further investigation revealed that it would add groups on the change of an employee record in HR11, just not add. It also worked in HR11 when we added new employees for a separate company (Company 20). After we discovered this Infor came back and told us that there were thresholds related to employee groups in HR11. They did not specify what those thresholds were at the time, however we were instructed to delete some employee groups not being used and run HR155 for individual groups to ensue membership. We deleted one group that had 11,990 employees assigned to it that lowered the total number of records in the PGEMPLOYEE group table for Company 10 from over 1.4 million to 1.39 million records. When a new employee was added the add procedure added him to 69 employee groups. When we ran the process to establish employee groups for our recent new hires, the results were as expected. They were being added to the groups now. It does appear that deleting some employee groups was the short-term answer. Infor later came back and said that it is an issue with the threshold level of data and that they had found in other cases programs like HR511 (by default HR11) have issues when the number of employee groups are > 800. All that we can do now is periodic cleanup for the time being. I do not know if any of you deal with this level of data but has anyone else come across this issue? Forgive me if this has already been posted or if this is the wrong forum. I am not familiar enough with the programs themselves and the add process to know if this is an issue that Infor should be able to 'code' for (i.e. an enhancement request) or if there is something that we can configure on the database side to accomodate such large data sets. We are utilizing Oracle as our database platform. 9.0.1 MSP4 is our application release. Any feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

There is a limit of 800 groups in the library code for employee group updates that are done by HR11.
This doesn't appear to be the case for HR155, even if you leave the group parameter blank.
Not sure how long it would take to run that for all of your groups over your entire population...
If you do a count of PERSGROUP how many groups are defined?

Thank you for the reply John. We currently have 763 groups defined for Company 10 and 56 groups defined for Company 20. For a total of 819 groups defined in PERSGROUP.

Have you tried running HR156 on your test environment...it has capacity for 2000 groups.

We have not to my knowledge and we did not at the time that we first encountered our problem.

Infor also suggested HR156 (running one group at a time) when we opened the case with them back in November. Our current version of HREMPGRP70 is 62.1.1. During initial analysis, before we became aware of the threshold of 800 groups being the cause, they recommended that we apply CTP 91239 contained in KB1352790 to move us to version 62.1.2.1.9. Shortly after becoming aware of the threshold, we deleted the large group mentioned in my first post and everything was working ok in HR11 for new hires for about a week. When we contacted them again, Infor then recommended that we move to the newer version of HR55PD (33.1.1) delivered by KB 1333171, CTP 87989 in addition to honoring the threshold going forward.

We have not refreshed our Test environment in a while. Currently we have 798 groups for Company 10 in PERSGROUP and 56 for Company 20 for a total of 854 groups.

There is also a KB 1469732, CTP 98964 (JT-545734) for 9.0.1 release that deals with expanding employee group updating capacity for HR156.

Would we need to apply either of these CTPs to get the 2000 group capacity? Looking at our current version of HRGRPWS 17 in /lsfp1/law/productline/hrsrc/hrwslib it appears to already reference a value of 2000 for Max-Group-HR-156.

Also, I'm wondering if HR156 would be a long-term solution for us since it is recommended that it be run by individual group which sounds cumbersome. If it could be then I suppose we could refresh our Test environment and play around with this some and apply any CTPs (if necessary) at that time.

            Sorry for the information overload.

I haven't looked at the latest code, but I would try a couple of things:
              - find out if you *really* need that many employee groups...if some of them can be eliminated, that's where I'd start
              - if you can't eliminate any, then you could let HR11 handle the first 800 and then use the employee group range parameter on HR156 on a nightly recurring job to pick up the remainder.
Regardless, you should test HR156 in your test environment and see if performance is acceptable for various ranges of groups, all groups, etc.

Will do. Thanks for the suggestions.

Also, I did fail to mention. Although we did not run HR156, we did run HR155 (wide open even though it is not recommended to do so) in our Test environment back in November. It did populate the employee groups but the job took 12 hours to complete. Quite intensive due to the amount of data.
