How do you handle any employee's First Name that is greater than 15 characters? We have some diversified populations coming from all over the world and Lawson's standard First Name is not good enough to hold more than 15 characters. We end up truncating the name after 15 characters.

I know we can expand the size of the field in the table, but as all know that is a pain for Upgrades, patches and is a customization. This also impact downstream systems.

I would like to know how have some of you handled the First Name issue? Do they have any feasible solution or workarounds?

We are on 9.0.1 version of Lawson.

    Thanks,

    Raj.

The Preferred Name field is 30 character, why not put the complete name in the Preferred Name field, then truncate the name in the First Name field (15 character).

Thanks Tim. The preferred name is not used by all the downstream systems, including Payroll & Benefits. Most of the systems do take First Name as the input. We are temporaily doing that for handling Emails, badges etc. But i am looking at a long term solution.
