It seems like I read somewhere (maybe in an older version) that it was not recommended to have database compression turned on when using SQL Server.
We just did an upgrade to SQL Server 2008 R2 and LSF 9.0.1.10. In our current test environment doing a backup on our 240GB database it completes in 6 minutes using the new data compression features in SQL Server 2008 R2... incredible! Without compression it took 36 miuntes, still 4 times faster than our current instance in SQL Server 2005 (takes 2 hrs).
Any one know of any nuances using compression in backups? Just want to double check.
Thanks

Using backup compression is the way to go with SQL 2K8 , save time and storage space . In our windows/SQL Server environments compression is our standard .
Thanks,
Omran

Been using compression for many years, no problem here.

Backup with compression worked fine for me in both SQL2008 and SQL2012, and I did numerous backup/restore iterations.
