Our HR department wants a Crystal report published to LBI that covers 24 months worth of data and runs about 15,000 pages.  Our consultant says we can't--or maybe it's that we shouldn't--send a report that large to LBI.

Anyone else sending that large of a report to LBI?  Is there a maximum number of pages for a single report or some reason why we shouldn't publish this in LBI?

Thanks!!

i cant imagine reporting services or many other web based BI tools being able to handle that just based on the timeouts that are in place on the webserver, application server and database connections. that would probably be your first point of failure. after that, memory allocation on WebSphere could crash out and/or the RAS engine.

I think your consultant is on the right track. Using Report-to-Report linking or even better, an OLAP cube, you can give users access to these report without having to render 24 months worth of data in a single view.
If any of my answers were helpful an endorsement on LinkedIn would be much appriciated! www.linkedin.com/pub/matthew-nye/1a/886/760/

What is the business driver to need such a large report?

I agree with Matthew that there has to be a better solution even if you take that report and add parameters so it can be run by Employee, by date range, Supervisor, Dept, etc.

15000 pages just seems to be overkill and would be hard to locate what is needed. I'd try to stick to smaller, more concise reports to find exceptions or relevent data and not the entire population for 24 months.
