Changing an item when on an open PO

I need to change the UOM information for an item that is on roughly 15 open PO's.  Its ordered every other week, or so.  The UOM was built incorrectly as just BX 1, when it should be EA 1/BX 6.  It won't let me change the BX to 6 because the item is on several open PO's.

I can't wait for the open PO's to clear because there will be future orders at any time.  What is the best practice for correcting this issue?  Build a new item?

I believe this is controlled on IC00 - Allow UOM Changes with Open Transactions - we have it set to '1' allow changes

If you are not on V10 you can cancel the line on the PO's (yes, a pain) and then update your UOM and then re-add it back to the PO's.

V9 has the same flag in IC00. Are these nonstock items?
