I am new to lawson and would like to know more about data interface between PO and AM. My goal is to have asset visibility from the time we create the purchase order, receive the item....and allow that information to migrate to "Asset Management". Currently, there is a disconnect and our data transfer requires lot of human intervention resulting in an inaccurate asset data. Is there an option in the PO application where I can populate initial product information, i.e. Make and model? Then at Receiving, the rest of the product unique information are completed, i.e. serial number...etc?

Use PO Line Asset Detail (AM19.1) to create and maintain detailed asset information for a purchase order line at the time of receiving, inspection, and/or invoicing. There is a button in the detail section for each line item. Here you can enter all the attributes that apply to the asset (model #, serial #, etc.)

I'm assuming this is accessed directly in the AM application? Is there anyway we can do this through PO30? We are trying to limit access to AM by our receiving team and minimizing number of windows they have to access during the process.

There is a button on the PO30 form (on the detail line) called 'Asset Detail', which opens the AM19.1 form. Both PO30 and AM19 are fairly complicated and self-contained, and PO30 passes some of the data (i.e. company, PO#, etc.) across to AM19. It is possible for you to combine them via Design Studio (this would not be a trivia modification, however). Since you're new to Lawson, my recommendation is that you first learn what the core application does before you embark on streamlining the processes.

It may be more practical to build a custom process (SQL, Access, Add-ins, etc.) to extract the info from PO and load it into AM. That way you could keep the system codes secured and you could pass your choice of data at your choice of time.

Be sure to fully map the current process including all "special" events and exceptions. You may very well need to adjust your process before you try to automate it.

Consider having the Buyers begin the Asset Detail procedure in PO20. Often, Buyers are in a good positoin to record such details. If needed, the entries can be further edted in PO30, and on MA43. It's quite important to use Lawson's "flow" from PO thru Matching and into Asset because Lawson follows FASB guidelines for recording accurate historical costs for assets.

Thanks for the tips. This seems fairly complicated when compared to what I'm used to. I've used DMLSS in the Navy and I thought it was unable to deliver what we wanted...but working with Lawson..it is big leap backwards from my vantage point. Thanks again..I will keep posting.

I found out that our current version is not able to effetively inteface with the Asset Managment. We have to have the 9.0 in to have the interface. This was the feedback I got from our team who attended the Vegas conference.

I can assure you that 9.0 is not required to get PO's information transfered into the Lawson asset module Depending on how many lines you have on a PO and how many of those lines are going to become one asset though can slow down the asset creation process. This issue though can be resolved by posting the charges to the activities module and then creating the asset from AC

Kevin, haracu is referring to M3 Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) module acquired from Intentia, not the S3 AM (Asset Management).

John, I'm actually looking at both EAM and AM...our Facilities Engineering is looking into St Croix (EAM) while I was looking for some fixes for the AM-PO.  I shared with them that since we have Lawson for our procurement - lawson's EAM may have a better value.  I still have not heard back from Lawson EAM, maybe there is no interface.  Might as well work with Kevin's lead. Thanks.
