Is there a way to determine the PO_NUMBER that is related to a particular REQ_NUMBER other than using the POLINESRC.SOURCE_DOC_N?

That is the correct way (POLINE) to relate Requisitions to Purchase Orders. Keep in mind that it should ideally be done at the line level (REQLINE to POLINE). If you're trying to do this for reporting purposes, make sure you include other key/index fields as well for efficiency purposes.
