Short Name Creation

I wanted to see how everyone else determines what/how to create the short names for Lawson S3 with the 30 character limit.  As we all know, medical product names can be quite long.  Is there one standard that has been found to be better than other in the naming convention?  I am looking for input on how everyone else is doing it.

We don't have a standard for the short description, but there is a patch to add a description 3 field that is over 300 characters. I believe there is one for 9 and 10 versions.

Our previous system had a 32 character limit so even before Lawson it was something we had to deal with. I created this guide for creating descriptions and we still follow it fairly consistenly.

We use GHX/Nuvia to generate descriptions based on attributes and abbreviations we agreed on during the build. We put the unabbreviated version of it in UPN1 (seen in an alias field in Epic). We also convert the full description into a jpg and use it as the item image seen in RQC.

The long description field is only available in Lawson v10 and up. I don't know anyone actually up on 10 though.

We are up on V10. I thought there was a patch for 9.0.1, but I couldn't find it.
