Is there a way to attach scanned images of an employee file to an employee's HR11 record without using a third-party vendor like Image Now?

I think with a little ingenuity, you could build an effective and inexpensive process. Since EMPLOYEE / HR11 allows URL attachments, you could use that facility to attach URLs to an employee's record pointing to scanned images. You would obviously need to set up folders in which to put the scanned files, and expose those via a [secured] URL that would resolve to the attachment URL.

If you can anticipate certain pre-defined attachments (i.e. drivers license, security access forms, W4, etc.) you could create an HR11 user exit to add those URL attachments records with a standard naming convention when an employee is added. And then use the standard naming convention to name the scanned images.

Since the attachments functionality is a little clunky in Portal, if you have Design Studio you could create links directly on HR11 to certain pre-defined attachments.

I have used this technique with various Lawson forms (e.g. AP invoices, POs, etc.) and it works quite well, and doesn't a huge investment.

Are the URLs an active link, or is it "copy & paste" from the drill option?

When you add the URL attachment, it becomes an active link from Drill Around.

The only URL i see when I right-click on the employee number and select attachments is the "Employee Attachment E-mail" and that of course generates an e-mail when I open it. Should there be other URL options?

Hmm. I didn't realize that. That would require a minor modification to the HR object rules (HR.or) to add an additional option.
