Faster Data Load

We are upgrading from 8.1 to 9.0 and I was wondering if there is a faster way to load all the data?  Has anyone played with say dropping indexes before running the upgrade then then rebuilding the indexes afterwords?  Any other ideas on how to speed up the upgrade process? Thanks
