We want to implement the Employee & Manager Self Service and had considered outside consulting vs Lawson. The cost is so high that we are considering the fact that we could hire someone to work full time for TWO years at a very good salary and still save money.
Does anyone have advise for us in this regard? Is it feasible that we could find a proprietary consultant that would want to do this for us at a lower cost? It this a complicated implementation?
Would the fact that we will have to move to Lawson 9.0 in the next few years be an issue that would impact the decision to implement the self service now?

Beverly:
What do you want to do? Do you want to enhance the forms? If so, Design Studio should to the trick. If you need to implement a new process, ala Job Requisitioning PA42, then you need to use the Lawson Javascript objects to implement IOS (DME and AGS calls) and build the HTML interfaces, then update your bookmarks to access the new forms. You will need a Javascripting resource, and someone who understands the system codes; or just help them with the codes and the process...and above all, be patient. I did a HUGE MSS mod, it just takes time, as javascripting is fickle.

Beverly, are you just referring to the implementation of ESS/MSS itself? If so, I guess it depends on which pieces you're trying to roll out, and to how large of an audience. One method I have seen work successfully when the budget is a constraint is to implement small pieces in small increments. Like, life events and address change first, then personnel actions, then web time entry, etc. Don't try to choke it all down in one big chunk. And yes, independent and "boutique" consultant firms are a good choice for this type of project. In particular I'd recommend Absolute or Aster Group, both of whom have vast experience with ESS / MSS. Let me know if you'd like contact info for them.
