    Hello,

What percentage of organizations perform maintenance with in-house resources or oursource maintenance to a third-party?  What is the justification for either choice?

This is maintenance with regards to updates to Websphere, environment updates, CTPs, MSPs, Landmark Critical Updates, LSO, LBI, DSSO, etc...

I just did an update from 9.0.1.7 to 9.0.1.8 and it took me nearly 3 days to get about halfway complete (all the above except the Landmark piece) (also includes 5 productlines to compile)

Granted, I'm very inexperienced in the ways of Lawson...but that just seems too long of a time to reach the half-way mark in any case.

    Is this typical?

    Thanks,
    Erika

Would you care to list the items that you updated? I do all the maintenance in house here and i usually allocate about 8 hours per week for it.

I updated the following in my Dev environment:

        Websphere
        LSF9 Core (plus patches)
        Portal (plus patches)
        Design Studio
        ESS
        Common Browser Library
        MSP (times 5 productlines)
        DSSO
        LBI
        LSO
        Help Text

I still have Landmark Environment and Landmark Application to update, in addition to all of the above in our Production environment.

MSP (times 5 productlines) would take about a day to do in itself. The items you listed would probably take me a good 2-3 days to do. Given you are new to Lawson, you are making good progress since you are already at half way point @3days!

We do most of our maintenance in-house and get help with major upgrades or things we have questions with.  Our approach is usually a little different.  When applying an MSP I wouldn't typically upgrade everything else at the same time.

We do it all in house. We don't like paying for upgrades and installation and the knowledge walks out the door when the system is up and running. We perfer the support to stay in house.
