We are new to Lawson with a go live date of early July. My question is: What are the default security roles that LS9 provides and are the practical to use for a 3500 employee company, Self Service, HR, Materials, Finance? Or, would it be quicker and easier to set up with the Security Accelerator that we could purchase that my trainer in MN told us about, and what roles are included with it? We had a crash course of 4 days and it seems that this could take quite a long time to setup and have it working right in this short period of time.

Just my 2 cents- We converted our Lawson security from the old model (LAUA) to use the new Lawson security. It was quite a daunting task. Thank goodness we purchased the Fast Track security packages.

Right off the bat, LSF9 does not provide any useful default security roles. Everything was going to have to be built from scratch. YUK! The Fast Track security provides security classes pre-built by Lawson. Although they are NOT for production use without modification and testing, they really provided us a good "hit the ground running" type of approach.

I'm not sure if that is what you are talking about when you say Security Accelerator or not? You are in for an adventure no matter what you decide to do. I personally am thankful for the Fast Track security templates.... but you'll still have to go through each security class, decide which role to assign it to, and test.

        Jim,
Here are the options you've seen:

        1) Build LS9 yourself (the best method if you have the time and resources, but a nightmare to accomplish).

        2) Fast Track (renamed to Security Accelerator) - this can be a good option, but if your security needs are specific and detailed you can spend an enormous amount of effort adjusting the configuration.

There's another option from Lawson's Partner company Kinsey & Kinsey:

        3) Use the Kinsey & Kinsey tools to analyze your security configuration, extract information from LAUA and/or from actual usage (the "Listener" captures user activity whether in production or during Conference Room Pilot and setup/testing for companies or system codes that aren't yet live). Then the Kinsey builder automatically creates the LS9 Roles, Security Classes and Rules in LS9 - yes - automatically, saving thousands or tens of thousands of mouse clicks. Numerous companies have been astonished and pleased at how quickly and easily (and how well) this worked out for them.

Sorry - that sounded a bit "salesy". I'm just a technical guy who does some of this, but it pains me to think of building, analyzing or changing LS9 without having these tools automatically do it for me. Call me if you'd like to challenge me or hear anything else about it!

        Best regards,
        Dave

We upgraded to Lawson Security Administrator in 2010. We had a Lawson consultant whom used the Fast Track. It helped our GL and AP personnel comprehend how to use and setup LSA. An additional note - we created two additional roles, one for each grouping of databases. It was suggested we segment these objects into GLFilesRole and APFilesRole and then add them accordingly alongside GLView and APView. Don't acctually recall why, but thought I would add that. For those that can afford to make Kinsey&Kinsey part of the mix, I can attest it will save alot of time, being a true developing, testing, migrating, and integrating tool.
