Hello, I am reading thru the Smart Notification User and Admin guide to learn but its not very intuitive, and Im having a hard time with it. Does any have or know a link for beginners to get us started.
A step by step creating one will be great. Thanks!

Hi! Is this a new implementation, ie/ the whole organization is new to Smart Notes. Or, just you as a user are new to Smart Notes? Your answer will guide me to how best to get you going :-)

First, you'll need to setup/create the data source connection. I prefer the JDBC connection as this allows the use of SQL Infoset creation. Check chapter 2 of the Smart Notification User Guide.

Done with That. I am currently trying to create a fact and/or range on my infoset, and Im at a lost. I cant see it anywhere where to do that. (If theres a step by step by step link or a document I can download. that would be awesome).
            Thanks for the reply.

I am not aware of any link or document that will walk you through step-by-step. What is this particular Smart Note going to do?

Its a test smart note, just to create one. I have an infoset with names, emails and numbers, it the number exceeds a certain amount then trigger and email to that person.

In Step 2 of the InfoSet Wizard (Define InfoSet), the column that is the number must be designated as a 'measure' in the "Key" column. When you get to the Notification part, you will set a condition to cause the Notification to be sent. This will not cause a trigger, you must setup a schedule for the InfoSet to "Update and Process" (possibly daily or even hourly if you want). When it updates and processes, the condition will be assessed , and the notification will go out if it meets the condition. (Or, you can tell it to go out anyway, just in case your user wants to know that the condition was assessed and was not meet.)

I did that. However when I got to the notifications part, its telling me that I dont have any fact to work with (in defining a condition). When I go to get the fact (step 1) and select my infoset, it is not displaying any option for a "fact". I guess I need to create a fact first in Infoset. And I dont know how to do that.

Let's try this...the last step to creating an InfoSet is to "Update" and "Process" the InfoSet. This can be done one of two ways: 1) Go to "Admin">"Work with InfoSets">...click on 'Update' and then 'Process' to the right of the InfoSet name in question. or 2) in the same place, click on 'URL's", click the link "Update/Process Infoset". This is actually the same thing you will do to 'trigger' the Smart Note after it is built. [If you have already done this and still have the issue stated above, let me know]

This is a pretty broad thread that youve posted here but this last issue is most likely due to the fact that you can only create a condition based on a measure. You select either a Fact (a single value) or a multi-fact (a data set) when creating a notification. A Fact will always be a measure. Youre using a multi-fact from an InfoSet and if I had to guess, you may not have set any of your columns in the InfoSet on Step 2 to be as a measure.

Do this first, then update/process your InfoSet, re-select your Multi-Fact and you should then be able to create a condition.

Matthew, Thanks a lot for your help so far. Heres where Im at:
                          1. I have 5 columns-> Name, Lname, Position, Email, TestNumber. All are strings except for TestNumber which is a float. I have declared all as "attributes" except for TestNumber as Measure. I noticed that when I do that, it doesnt allow me to do anything. However when I declared one (or more) of the other columns as "key" it works. But then it will only allow me to have "range of facts". And from these "range of facts" I can declare a condition. The output looks like this: There are basically 2 reports (in 1 page/screen), the first one, displays everything (all the records) and the second one displays the records that met my condition (my condition was to display only if TestNumber exceeds 500).
Question: How can I declare one condition (hence will only show one report) that will only display records that met the condition i.e. TestNumber>500. Could that be done by declaring just 1 fact? Is it possible to not declare a "Range of facts" but only 1 "fact"?

check out the options on Step 4. here you can set the "tables" to display as graphs, tables or (this is what you want) Do Not Display. Set your first one as the latter and you should have what youre looking for.

Hello ric9d, I find myself in a similar situation I am reading thru the Smart Notification User and Admin guide to learn but its not very intuitive, and Im having a hard time with it. The book might be useful once you have the basics of working/creating a smart note, but it is not helpful to getting started. Were you able to come up with any basic information on getting started with Smart Notes (knowing what the screens are asking for and what effect they have further on in the process).

                                Hello ajn,
Unfortunately we decided to kinda put this project on the backset. I have been tasked something else that has more priority.
To answer your question, it did work for me (in DEV/Test), and thank to the help of the people in here. So just follow the instructions here and that should take care of you. Feel free to test some scenarios and ecperiment, at least thats what I did and eventually got it to work.
                                Good Luck!
