First time poster...we are having an issue where some customer orders are creating LINKED mfg proposals when MRP is run. Only occurring on a few customers and not all their orders are affected. We have never used this functionality as we ship production randomly across many orders. Shipping is not able to allocate inventory as it is ''locked'' to one specific order. I cant find a setting to control this. Since it is random, is it possible one of the order entry folks is doing something wrong. Affected orders are showing a field ''Reference order category'' flagged with a 1, while unaffected orders do not show that field at all.
Thank you in advance.
So, I can answer my own question. After seeing this occurring randomly I knew it wasn't a setting issue. Turns out was training.
Went back to order entry folks who sent me screenshots of their process. At line entry, an MRP screen comes up to advise if inventory is not available for order. Some folks decided to hit F16 (procure) to get by it. That option will create a PO tied to the customer order. All our items are MFG, so MRP failed to create PO, and defaulted to creating production order proposal. All production was then locked to ship only against that sales order.
Problem solved and since I'm a consultant, $$
