I am currently working with a hospital that is having some inventory control issues.  I do understand that you either allocate online (when the requisition is released) or in batch (when the batch program is run). We are seeing several items that have "unallocated" quantities showing up in demand balances/stock status report.  Does this happen when you have alloaction set up via the batch method instead of allocation at the time of req submittal??? For instance, if you are allocating in batch method and a req is submitted quantities will show up as unallocated until that batch is run?  Are there pros and cons to allocating online vs. batch.

Yes, if you have allocation set up as batch then you will have unallocated quantities until you run WH110.  The advantage of batch allocation is that you can prioritize which department gets the allocation first. We're in Healthcare so this could be used if we wanted the OR or Cath lab to get stock before other departments.  You could set up a multi step WH110 with your priority departments in the first steps.  We're set up as online allocation though.
