I've read in various forums where some companies use hundreds of employee groups.  We are on version 9.0.1 and use them for benefit plans,  accruals, standard time records and a few for grouping jobs.  I'm wondering if there are other uses of employee groups that we might be missing out on.  I would appreciate hearing from others on how they use groups, especially hundreds of them!  Thank you

I have used them in various ways in Process Flow work flows. That helps to keep the flow independent of changes that might occur from time to time. For example, one of our personnel action approval flows require a "Chief Officer" approval - so at each HRUserAction node it needs to know if the approving manager is a Chief Officer, or if it needs to continue up another level in the employee's organizational hierarcy. The definition of Chief Officer has changed in the past. By using an employee group I can just update the HR55.3 and the process flow does not require any changes.

I think the better question is how didnt we use them Within our Lawson system, we had 100's of employee groups. We used them to group various types of employees for reporting, payroll, benefits, PTO, etc. We had a large number of users who could create employee groups and so we probably had many that were overlapping or pulled the same employees.
