I am interested in other companies that are using employee/manager self service.  We are finding numerous things that we may want to customize.  An example of this is adding commas and $ symbols.  What customizations has your company done to the self service screens and how much time did it take to do them?

Yes we have made quite a few customization to ESS/MSS. These modifications were spread out over time so I am not sure how much time we put into them.

      Some examples:

benbulletin.htm We replaced the section you are supposed to modify with an iframe that links to a document that HR can edit. The same with benbulletin...

physician.htm We had it also display the address of the doctor because doctor names are not unique.

      . . .

There are 30+ plus files that we have modified.

We have also made some extreme customizations to MSS. We've basically taken what we want out of core MSS, changed it to do what suites our business needs and built custom front ends on to it. Our MSS took ~18 months to design & code.

        Some of our examples include:
        1. removing "Select" functions to force a particular data value.
        2. redesign of the Direct Reports functionality screen to allow managers to drill thru employees that have their own direct reports and initiate actions on the drilled employee.

We're also in the process of redesigning ESS to work the way we want it to. You'll find that because there are some many "include" files called by MSS/ESS, depending on the scope of your changes:
        1. you could end up touching a lot of files
        2. changes will take a while because you'll find some include files are used by a number of screens
        3. testing every scenario can take a while. we've got a QA section that can design some pretty elaborate scenarios.

Good luck, feel free to contact us for more info
