We are in the process of testing Life Events in ESS, we are planning to roll these out to users some time after open enrollment. As we test, is there any pitfalls that others have run into with rolling this out to the general employee population that we need to keep in mind.

We are running into the issue of effective dates for insurance.  Because life events are a qualifying event, the effective date is the date of the event, not the normal first of the month.  We have different entry rules set up so our staff needs to intervene on behalf of the employee to set them up for a different entry rule to allow for immediate coverage.  I am also having an issue for a life event that doesn't currently exist - when a 19-25 year old is no longer a dependent and should be taken off of the insurance.  ESS does not allow for this.  I am hoping with the upgrade to LSF9 that there will be more pre-defined events.

I had issues with entry dates and re-entry dates for a couple plans so I created a process flow to update a benefit date field on HR11 on a daily basis ... It updates the field until they enroll and then it puts their hire date in the field. I am sure you could find a creative way to use a process flow and a benefit date field.
