A quick way is using Ctl-Shft-O in portal on any field, which provides the 3 character description of the table - if you only have access to LID, the only way I know is using tech text and/or data file text. You can also use John's EXTREMELY TERRIFIC options here - Database ERDs and Data Dictionary found under "Tech" and "ERDs"

Use dburf to transfer to tech text within the app, dbdoc to get to data file text. Not sure how to elaborate more - what are you trying to do?

When you have a minute, take a look at the Database ERDs and the Data Dictionaries here - it will save you a boatload of time in the future.
