Has anyone else experienced a recurring problem I have with my Eclipsed based 9.0.1.x designer client?

For reasons I haven't been able to figure out, occasionally my designer client will not launch.
I get the screen to authenticate; I provide my credentials; it looks like the app will launch...and then nothing.  The app doesn't launch, no residual processes running, etc.

With help from GSC (yes, that long ago) I've been able to narrow down that the problem deals with a corrupt 'workbench.xml' file that lives in C:\Program Files\Lawson Software\ProcessFlow901\workspace\.metadata\.plugins\org.eclipse.ui.workbench\

Each time this happens, I simply delete the workbench.xml file in this directory and replace it with a 'pristine' one that I've saved off (from a clean install of the client) and then subsequent launches of designer work fine.  Lawson doesn't seem to know why it gets corrupted as this behavior has persisted throughout 2 ESPs and a number of newer client versions.

I sure wish I knew what causes the 'workbench.xml' file to get corrupted.

    Anyone else have this happen?

I have recently experienced the same issue. I don't have much to add to what you have said, my experience was the same as yours but has only happened for me the one time. I am suprised, that since you reported this issue some time ago, at how long it took support to come up with the solution for me.

Yes, this has happened to me a few times and I do the same fix you do, that is replace corrupted workbench.xml with a 'clean' version.

Of a bigger concern to me is that the eclipse designer crashes/locks up constantly.  I literally 'Save' after every single change.  Have you also experienced this?

Yes, that happens to me very frequently. It drives me crazy. I think the two issues are related because I seem to be the only PFI developer at my place of work with these issues.

I also have the problem of the Designer locking up every few minutes if I am actively making changes. It is very frustrating, and I have had to re-do a lot of work. I have not had the corrupted workbench file. I have not reported this to Lawson but a consultant told me there are memory leaks. They recommend moving to IPA, but we are not ready for that yet. It sounds like they are not putting many fixes in PF Designer anymore.

We are in the process of installing IPA in a Test environment.  I have not yet been able to work with Eclipse Designer in IPA.  I would be very interested to hear from developers working in IPA, who also had experience with Eclipse Designer 9.0.1 (know the frustration & challenges), to hear whether or not the IPA Eclipse Designer is fixed/improved.  If in fact the new IPA Designer 'works', that alone would be a big incentive for me to push hard to convert and move to IPA.

Thanks for posting this. I encountered the corrupted workbench.xml issue today and was able to replace the file with a colleague's to get Designer working again.
