    Environment 8.0.3, ESP 7
    Apps 8.1.0, MSP 6
Windows Server 2003 - Enterprise Edition

All of a sudden, my user list in LAUA is empty.  All I get is an error message at the bottom saying "String Not Found".  However, if I add the "-a" switch to the end of the LAUA command, my user list populates normally.  I've already cleaned out old users with the "delusers" command and generated a refreshed user listing using "listusermap - d" followed by "listusermap -n".  This had no effect as my user list still comes back empty using the plain-jain "laua" command.  Reviewing my "univ.cfg" file, my mLAUAUSERS parameter is set to 11000.  My "Sid Cache" value in my environment config utility is set to 5000.  I have 3,591 users in my domain Lawson user group (named "Lawson-Grp".

I've opened a support case with GSC but they have been unable to figure out the problem yet.  Any suggestions from the gurus here?  Thanks in advance.

Who are you logging in as when you do the 'LAUA'?  Is that user a member of you Lawson local group?

        Good morning, John.

I am logging in under the 'lawson' user ID, which is a member of the local "Administrators" group on each of my environment servers. I actually have two environments, a production system and a development system. Both systems are exhibiting the same issue. I've also tried running laua under my own account, which is also a member of the local admin group on the server, but the results are the same. No user listing and "String Not Found" at the bottom of the LAUA window.

Have you looked in the EventViewer to see if any errors are generated?

I seem to remember coming across this before, and I think it was something to do with a username that had funky (i.e. non-loworder-ASCII) characters in it...

Since are having this on both environments (assuming they're on different servers) this would suggest something similar. You might want to change the local group in laconfig on the development server to be 'Administrators' and see if the problem goes away. If it does, change it back and hunt thru the users in your "Lawson-Grp" and see if any of their account names are wierd...

Found the cause of the issue. We have a primary domain controller (PDC) and several backup controllers (BDCs). Checking the error logs of the Lawson application servers (after turning on the 'Debug' flag in the environment configuration tool), I found repeated errors generated by the environment trying to validate users against a specific backup domain controller. It turns out this particular BDC had stopped replicating with the other controllers on the domain. The BDC was rebooted and replication between it and the other domain controllers resumed. As soon as that occurred, LAUA started working normally again and there were no more errors being recorded in the Lawson server event logs.
