We are getting ready to do a setup of all rights in the production environment on our several testing environments to start various testing.

In order for me to accomplish this I am planning to do an export or dump of all rights from production create a csv and then import it into the testing environments.

in the reporting services manauals there are procesdures that explain the importing peice and the csv file that contains the rights but no information on how to extract all the rights from production and upload.

Has anyone done this? What is best method to accomplish this ?

I was able to create some Crystal reports against the reporting services tables that I use to pull information on who currently has what rights. I suppose that those could be exported and then used as the basis of the csv file to import. I do use the import option when I add a group of rights into the system, it works pretty well.

        Ruma,

Theres no documented way to export rights. As Nick pointed out you can pull that from the database repository but it will take a bit of exploring to understand what data is in which tables. Luckily the tables are fairly intuitively named so its not as complicated as it could be, however keep in mind because its not documented, future changes to the ERD will break this process.

The other option and perhaps more solid from a data management stand point is to populate Production and Test from the same original import file. You didnt mention whether or not you were building the rights manually in Production or if you were populating from another source. if you are populating from another source Id suggest replicating this routine for test.

Thanks Matt. We actually built all the rights manually in the production system so we did not use any csv file.  So I do not have any source file that I could use again.

Amy yesterday shared a query she has used for another version of LBI that actually pulls this information. I am tweaking the query for our present version of LBI.

Prod is on version 9031 and our test environments are on version of 904. So when I import  should I have the csv file for 904 version ?

Also related to this we actually going on to a true single sign id for all systems of Lawson and migrating to LS9 security. What this means for LBI is all users will now be using an alternate id to what rights management was originally built on. For all historical instances created before the migration to this id I am investigating means to sync the old ids to the new id. If you have any thoughts on this or seen this implemented before can you share your thoughts.

Thanks always for the great help,

          Ruma.

Thanks for everybody's help on this. I was actually able to import all the rights into 904 according to the csv format that 904 requires for the rights imports and this works without any issues.
