We want to burst a report on our new dashboard. Can anyone give me a clear explanation of what Elements and Structures are/do? The documentation is vague. Any replies would be greatly appreciated!!!

      I'll try.
Elements are data elements that you use to burst your report. For example if your report has Company and Acct Unit that you want to use to burst on then you have to have matching elements set up in LBI. (If you're bursting a Lawson Back Office report these Element names must match the XML tags exactly). So you set up two elements called Company and Acct Unit and then add them into a Structure. The Structure groups the Elements together (you have to create a Structure even if you only need one Element).
You then create a User/Group Right to use the Structure (which contains the Elements) and assign the Bursting values. In my example the User Right would have the Company/Acct Unit value to Burst the report on and you assign the users/groups to the Right. These users would only see data within the report associated to the User/Group Right they're assigned to.

Think of them like flexible security classes. Rights are a container for Structures, Structures are a container for Elements and Elements are a container for values. When you assign specific data to an element within a right and then assign a user to that right are allowed to see only that data once you assign the structure to a report.

does that clarify a bit more?
