When designing a new UI for a screen, is there a way to determine where a field is already being used as a data source?

We have an older modified version of a PO20 that has the xref-vendor on it, but it does not appear to be in the current PO20 list of available data source field values. Can I find where it might be being used presently, and whether it is being used elsewhere or not, is there a way that I can "add" it to the PO20 so it can be used here?

    Thank you.

It might have been previously deleted or removed from the form. In which case it is now a type of "Hidden". Try clicking on the source tab and finding here the element is. Change the type back to what the other fields are. It should then appear on your screen.

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A COPY BEFORE DOING ANY OF THIS. ANYTIME YOU GO INTO THE SOURCE AND MAKE CHANGES YOU RUN THE RISK OF MESSING SOMETHING UP.

This has worked for me in the past - your mileage may vary.

If you add a text field to your form and click the Data Source property to the right, does the field you're looking for appear in the list?

          Thanks for your replies guys!

Terry, I do not even see the field in question on the hidden fields listing.

          David,

One of the fields (PCR-XREF-VENDOR) appears in the list on the present default presentation version of the form, which was a modified version done in design studio a coupe years ago. But, it does not appear in the list if I do a new UI, starting with PO20 quick paint of the current version of the form.

The other field (PCR-DFLT-DL-DATE) is a slightly different situation. In the present default presentation, this field is used on both PO20.1 and PO20.2. I did not think this was possible. I thought you could only use each field in the data source list once, so that's why I thought this one wasn't appearing, but if I un-select it on PO20.1, it still does not show as being available for use on PO20.2.

Can you provide any further insight? Thank you.

It is possible that you are storing this value (PCR-XREF-VENDOR) in a user field? I don't see it on PO20.1.

Fields (PCR-DFLT-DL-DATE) can be referenced on both the main form and associated sub-forms. I have often added a field from a sub-form to the main form so users don't have to open the additional form to key it.

              Thanks David.

I'll have to investigate to see if it is in a user field. (I did not do the initial modification and it was not documented, so I am just trying to make sense of it after the fact.)

As it turns out though, I've spoken to the end user group again and they are telling me that they do not actually use either of these fields that had previously been incorporated into the PO20.2, so I will simply remove both.

Thanks once again for your replies!
