We have used Convey to produce our 1099 forms in the past. This product is being sunset in the near future, so we're looking for other options. How are others producing their 1099 forms and IRS file? Are you using Lawson with MHC? Or are you using some other 3rd party?

Gundersen has used MHC for 2 years (maybe 3) and their process is pretty straight forward. We send them the incform file from the AP145 job (we have 18 different companies so we send them a file for each TIN), they send us an e-mail listing the number of forms and dollars, which we compare to Lawson. If everything matches they print and mail the forms.

If you have any additional questions be happy to try and answer them.

Thanks for the reply. How do you handle the file that is sent to the IRS? Does MHC send that or do you get the file from Lawson?

We use MHC also for pay stubs, W2's and 1099's. You can use MHC to send the W2 and 1099 files, but we did not purchase that piece of it so we use the files generated from Lawson and upload them via the web sites that are set up for that. It has work well for us.

We at Gundersen upload the file to the IRS's FIRE website (File Information Returns Electronically). The file is generated from the AP146. In talking with our AP staff that completes this process she did suggest that if you don't currently have an account setup on the FIRE site you're going to want to complete that a couple months in advance of submitting a file, as this process took longer than we had anticipated when we starting uploading our files.

MHC may offer the service of uploading the file, that's not a question that we've ever asked.
