Recently participated in a process review with Infor consultants; one of the recommendations for the Financial users was that they try to use the capabilities of the MS Excel Data Connection Wizard for working with the Lawson/Infor data.

Is it possible to connect MS Excel to RW100 reports using an ODBC connection? Or do we need to use the OLEDB connector to do this?

If anyone has done this, would greatly appreciate your sharing a sample of the process. Also, if you could share comments on how well this does or doesn't work.

    Thank you for your assistance.

It is possible to connect MS Excel to a Lawson Database using ODBC. It is also possible to connect MS Excel to the Lawson System using an OLEDB connection. The ODBC connection should be faster but the Lawson OLEDB connection will be able to use LSF9 security. There is a Lawson Tool called Add-Ins for Excel that uses the OLEDB connection and is specifically made to do Lawson data extraction and Lawson data uploading.

It is also possible to connect to a Lawson report like any created with the RW100 Program from Crystal Reports. You have to use the OLEDB connection and the Query Tool for this to create a DME query.
Once you pull the report data into crystal you can export it to excel. You need to set the XML output on for the reports when you do this or run the bldxffiles command.
