We are beginning to weigh our linen carts now.

Instead of having staff to manually record the data and then log it into a computer, my director wants to know if we can use the MSCM hand helds and the application capture that data.

He wants to scan bar codes to record numbers for the weight, then scan the bar code on the Mayflower Linen sheet, and then transmit all of the bar code data captured to an electronic file that we would then maintain.

Does anyone use MSCM for that purpose?

Is anyone else weighing their linen carts and using Lawson to manage that information??

Yes and no - the scanner can be used to record anything with a bar code but MSCM itself doesn't have a function for recording that information.

We've never been happy with Lawson's cycle count feature so our IT guys found a free cycle count app that we used for a while but it was cumbersome so they ended up writing their own. We use the HHTs to scan the item and enter a count; the app takes that information, displays it electronically and we then upload it into Lawson.

In our Sterile Processing Department they have very inexpensive scanners that aren't related to Lawson or MSCM at all. They just scan a bar code, enter the count and then the scanner creates a text file with the information that can be uploaded into whatever.

      Hope that helps -

Bev- MSCM isn't the right solution but if you have a DataWedge application on the handheld you can scan into the Office Mobile Excel application. Once the data has been captured in Excel you sync the device with your pc (make sure you're syncing the Files) and then you can access the file in Excel on your pc. We recently purchased some MC55A-0 handhelds and they have the DataWedge application already installed- just have to turn it on. Our older MC75A devices do not so I downloaded it from Motorola Solutions (now Zebra) support. What device are you using?
