We are currently installing mobile supply chain and purchased the symbol 8800 series handheld. We have a question on the frequency of the handheld. The 8800 runs on a radio frequency of B and our wireless system runs on G. We are concerned that the handhelds will pull down the other equipement on the floors like mak carts to B and slow down. We are looking to see if anyone has experienced this on a pt floor with any type of equipement and if so how did you fix it. The second question is can you upgrade the card to G from B? Any help would be appreciated.

We use the Symbol 8800 handheld devices for MSCM in a healthcare environment, and have not had any issues with wireless conflict or crosstalk. We use different frequencies for robotics near our distribution area and have not had problems with those or with patient care equipment in the OR where these handhelds are used for Par Counting and wireless upload. They basically function like most any other wi-fi enabled device such as a smartphone since they use Windows Mobile. I should add that I am not a network admin, so I don't have a clear understanding of how our wireless networks are configured, and you may want to take this with a grain of salt.

I am unaware of any way to upgrade the devices from type B to type G.

Our techs were concerned with the very same issue. We had a bunch of B radio handhelds in here for testing, but before we could even get started the techs nixed those and opted for a G radio handheld. We were able to return the B radio handhelds (with a restocking fee) what we ended up ordering were the Dolphin 7850's.
I can say that they have been pretty well-liked with our receiving and distribution folks.

I'll see if I can't dig up the specs.
